The Office of Mauna Kea Management will receive $2 million to renovate the Hale Pohaku mid-level facilities and for road repairs.

The repairs will affect paved portions between Hale Pohaku and the summit. The section was last paved in the late 1980s, and is deteriorating because of weather and shifting of the ground, according to a press release from Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s office.

The release also mentions parking at the Visitor Information Center being overextended but doesn’t say if additional parking spaces will be added.
